SPN Masquerade recs

Thankstebtosca and riyku for running spn_masquerade - I've had a great time reading through it all. Unfortunately I happened to be away on holiday for the majority of the meme time so I only managed one fill - The Terminal Point of Addiction (Sam/Dean) for a prompt that could have been written for me to grab (thanks OP!) and still only just finished it in time. There were some glorious prompts that I wish I'd gotten to though.

One thing I keep meaning to do (and forgetting) is to rec more often. Recently I haven't been reading much because there's too much going on, but I've been slowwwly working my way through spn_masquerade. Hopefully at some point I'll be able to start making my way through the Big Bang fics, which really is a surfeit of amazing.

Fic

Untitled (Jeff/Jensen, soft cock kink) This was one of my very very favourite ones. What makes it so utterly intriguing is the queasiness of Jensen's interior feelings contrasted against Jeff's calm surety. The porn is hot, but the thinking is even hotter, and it pries into a little bit more thoughtfulness than a lot of fics do.

Breath (Sam/Dean, CPR) This is so quietly sincere that I am eagerly awaiting the rest of it - and thoroughly enjoyed what was posted. It walks the line really neatly between Dean's feelings and the mixed up way he's experiencing them.

And a Hard Place (Sam/Dean, claustrophobia) this one has a searing quality to their interaction, and there's such a deep dark vein of sadness and fucked upness to the comfort that's being found between them in that moment - the hint of unequalness of attraction gives an added measure of depth.

Share my Body (J2, watersports) One thing I really like is when people hit exactly the right descriptive note - and this one did for me. The sensation-describing is neither overwrought or sparse, but exactly right for the situation.

Evolution (J2, zombies, quasi-necro) This was a surprise for me - not usually my sort of thing but damn. This is another one where the buildup and the story combine with the sex to create something really unusual and unique in focus. It's tight and clever and the tension is wicked.

One Stocking at a Time (J2, were-reindeer) Sweet and fun, I liked the modern feel to it - normal life with a supernatural twist is my crack - also the ending is adorable!

Art

I Know I'll Lose. We Both Know. (Sam, Dean, blood drinking) I love all the frames of these, how they tell a story so neatly in that timespan. The colours are lovely and muted, Dean's smirk is perfect, and the posing is beautiful. Really captured the prompt I think.

Wardrobe Malfunction (J2, public) The costumes! The colour! The expressions! Loveliness all round really. There's an intimacy to the captured moment, and the exposed skin shown that works for me really well, like a candid snap of the participants.

Merman/Shark (J2)  This is just so fun and lighthearted, and does one of my favourite things - incorporates the unexpected - in this case in the genital region! The posing is lovely as well, and gets the right mix between playing it straight and having a laugh.

Fire, walk with me (Dean, demon face) This is a really great take on Dean's interior corruption - traces of him visible still, the starkness of the pose against the rest of the picture. I like art which examines the relationship between demons and their body, and this worked for me.

Seven minutes in heaven (J2, kissing) The tongue is the first thing that grabs attention, but Jared's shyness and Jensen's forthrightness tell a story all of their own combined with the title. Sexy and interesting as well.
