There was a movie meme that I was going to steal from [livejournal.com profile] counteragent which asked for ten films that people could watch to know who you are. Unfortunately, I don't actually watch very many films at all. So I considered bastardising it by combining with[livejournal.com profile] de_nugis's version and doing 5 books/5 films. However, no way could I narrow it down to five books. So 5 films and 10 books.

1. Reach for the Sky - yes I am embarrassed by this one.
2. The Red Shoes
3. Grosse Point Blank
4. A Man for All Seasons
5. A Matter of Life and Death ties with Fast and Furious 1

1. The Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien - for obvious reasons
2. The Evil Cradling - Brian Keenan
3. Christianity, Social Tolerance and Homosexuality - John Boswell
4. Iliad - Homer
5. All Creatures Great and Small - James Herriot
6. King Rat - James Clavell
7. A Canticle for Leibowitz - Walter M. Miller
8. Persuasion - Jane Austen
9. A Vicarage Childhood - Noel Streatfeild
10. The Lantern Bearers - Rosemary Sutcliff

I keep thinking about doing this but mine would probably end up being more like 5 films and 50 books - not sure I could manage to narrow it down more than that!

Also I'm charmed that Boswell gets a look in.

It was such a struggle to narrow it down to ten! My narrow interest in films is counterbalanced by reading too many books.

I had to include Boswell for two reasons, both relatively obvious. One, queerness/religion intersection especially given his personal life, and two, he made me realise when I was drowning in history that it was something I could do. Which was nice.

You should definitely do the meme!

Maybe I will, maybe I will.

I suspect that the only book that we'd share on our top 10s would be Tolkien but (unsurprisingly) I'm very fond of a number of yours. Though actually I haven't read that Boswell, only the one on same-sex marriage.

Oh my gosh, Grosse Point Blank! I must have watched that movie like 20 times when it came out on dvd (video?)!! I was so smitten with John Cusack and Mini Driver after that. And Joan Cusack!! "I'm taking down the office now~~!" Haha, wow. What a pleasant memory this movie is for me. Time for a rewatch, clearly.

I love that film! Joan Cusack was the best, but everybody in it was amazing and hilarious. Definitely rewatch - it's one of those films that just gets better.
