There's 50 questions below the cut, feel free to pick a number (or 2 or 3) and prepare for the resultant word vomit. If there's one thing I love, it's talking about fic, commenting, favourite authors, reccing and all of those good things. So ask away

I'll strike out the questions and cut and paste the answers into the text of the post as well as in the comments

I never miss a chance to chew over things that don't bear the chewing, so why not subject my remix to the same process?

Remix!

I will do a proper post after author reveals in a week (and also include a little bit of semi meta about working with someone else's fic, if my recipient doesn't mind) but first things first!

I will pay absolutely no money if you successfully guess which fic was written by me. My attempt at a remix was essentially taking the gag off the bit of me that usually has some restraint, and absolutely wallowing in my own filth fondness for a particular style of writing. I have no shame.

What was remixed: I got One More Coal (coals of fire remix) by the prolific Anonymous. When I thought about this fic being remixed, the one thing that sprang to mind was the possibility of the story alluded to at the end of the fic being written (past!Dean visited by future!Sam).  Proving wishes do sometimes come true, this is exactly what I got! It's hot, painful, and really digs deep at the disturbing undertow of the original fic (One More Coal) and the title exactly fits what the author made of it. Also, amongst all the great little character moments, the intext callbacks etc, did I mention how hot it is?

Below the cut you can feast your eyes on my hurt-comfort Bingo card. I say this every time and it's still true, I suck at hurt-comfort. I'm good at the hurt bit though, and there's a ton of things I can work with for once - some of which are made for Supernatural - abandonment issues! arrest! possession/mindcontrol! And that's just canon.

I also have an experimental fan-works bingo card, which I am even less likely to make a bingo for. But trying is the backbone of achievement

The fantastic [livejournal.com profile] indiachick tagged me in the 7 by 7 meme. Luckily I only have one relevant WIP that's seven pages long at this present moment in time. It may not ever see the light, but it's really fun to write.

"You could leave it," Jared says, but even as he speaks, he can see Jensen retreat. He's broached the impossible, the thing they never speak of, violated the unspoken compact of mutual discretion. Jensen stands then, takes up his book from the table as though he recognises now the futility of any commonplace gesture of friendship.

"Goodbye Jared," he says quietly. "I've asked the bishop to consider reassignation. He's very helpful, I suspect it won't be long." There's no bite to his voice, only a certain inevitability, as though it isn't Jensen speaking, but a thousand years worth of crushed human nature.

Since most people have done this meme, whoever would like to be tagged, consider yourself tagged!

The rules: Make a list of

1. Ten things that you think are common in your fic
2. Ten things you think are uncommon in your fic although commonly found in fic in general
2. Ten things you wish were more true of your fic.

I've been wretchedly sick for the last few days. Caught a cold and while I was at home I was crawling around moaning for people to kill me, enough that I suspect my family at least, wanted to grant my wish. Anyway, I dragged myself out of what is rapidly becoming less of a room and more of a lair stuffed with tissues and strepsils, and all the way down to Aldi to buy wine. Because even though I loathe St Patrick's Day, I do like wine.

Came back, and I might as well have not gone as there was a  bottle of wine on the doorstep in a bag with my name on it. Puzzling. The paper inside solved the mystery, it was from an acquaintance thanking me for help with a project. All fine and dandy...except how do they know where I live? It's not information I hand out. Did they follow me home one day?

Apart from that, if anyone wants to give me better titles for either of these [livejournal.com profile] spn_masquerade fics before I upload to AO3, I will love you forever and give you a glass of wine. Both of them were subject to the 'string any words together quick' style of titling. The worst one off is the femslash Gen/Danneel fic currently called 'Dinner is Served' which the more I think about it, the grosser it becomes. I like a good pun as much as the next girl but that doesn't even work as a joke. girl!Jensen/Jared called 'Stranger in a Crowd' is less viscerally ugh but equally bland. So help a fic writer out before I have to resort to Auden for the 1188567th time.

I'm staying in tonight and working on my [livejournal.com profile] super_disney fic. I might beg for a beta for it at some point. It also makes me want to be able to draw because this idea would be so much better visually. However the extent of my artistic talent is using picmonkey + stick figures, I find this terribly sad. To be fair, I also can't knit, crochet, woodwork or do anything dexterous with my hands that isn't a little bit of silver working.

Also I'm still working on my meme ficlets and I have to say [livejournal.com profile] alycat you came dangerously close to getting a ficlet where J2 were professional pigeon-fanciers. It took no less than two people reminding me that pigeons are not the same thing as turtledoves before I'd let that idea go.

So far I have kept to my NYRs though I haven't yet wended my way back to the gym. On Monday! For definite!

Every so often I do a weed out of some of the things I've written anonymously. For whatever reason femslash seems to get written anonymously the most, I have no idea why.

So here is a sample:

Welcome Back. Katy/Effy, Skins. When Effy gets out of prison, Katy's the only one there to take her home. They have awkward sex. Only real canon knowledge requirement is that they're both early twenties and Katy went through early menopause which made the sex scene slightly unfamiliar ground.

The Poetry of Logical Ideas, Les Miserables  Dahlia/Favourite. I spent an embarassing amount of time trawling wikipedia for pre-1830s maths concepts to work into this and I quite like it. There's a faint service top dynamic between them that I thought was interesting.

English Mannerisms, Les Miserables  Dahlia/Zephine. Silly, a little bit funny and the product of the weird canon aside where it's remarked on that Favourite has 'english mannerisms' and the resultant conversation where we tried to decide if english mannerisms bore any resemblance to the 'english vice'.

and now for something completely different

Against a Shield Achilles/Patroclus, The Iliad, pretty much exactly what it says on the tin, short and not that sweet.

I am permanently one step behind, always. It's very sad. But I have forgotten none of the Christmas meme entries - they'll just stretch into January, I promise.

This is all the Christmas things and I've combined my end of the year writing roundup into it as well!

I will never ever make it as a stockbroker. Playing on the stock market with virtual money gives me the shakes, the thought of actually chucking millions of pounds around terrifies me.

I am also not signing up for [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang even though I really want to and there's a gorgeous art prompt that is calling me. Must stay strong. I am however signed up for [livejournal.com profile] salt_burn_porn and excited about it.

Fic rec: I strongly recommend this DCBB fic Enfleurage by [livejournal.com profile] saltandbyrne. D/C generally isn't my jam but this is Sam/Dean/Castiel and it's beautiful. It's not only beautiful and an interesting Cas POV, but it has a great cast of supporting characters (Meg, Bela, Jo in particular) and a marvellous sensuousness to the description of the perfumes and all the other things that Cas can smell. Well worth the read.

Yuletide is here! There are so many good letters (check out the letters post here) and it's a very fun exchange.

hurt/comfort bingo is a go. I'm heavier on the hurt than I am on the comfort, not so big on the breaking though. Much more fond of characters who endure or laugh it all off. I'm using my prompt me icon because there's at least 10 squares where I'm looking at it and thinking I have no idea what on earth I can write.

Pick a person/ship for a square and I'll see what I can do. Feel free to customise it - example: Sam, allergies (fish and hummus) or a longer thought. Any source I've consumed. Only 'no' squares are prostitution and abuse.

Obvious disclaimer: It's possible I may not write them. I can guarantee it won't be because of the prompt, but because bingos are really hard to complete.

This is a really weird one for me. My main experience of fandom has been either in the tiniest of tiny fandoms where I'm the only person writing and I literally do not expect anyone to click let alone comment (every book fandom ever), or when I'm in a big fandom to write a tiny pairing or gen (see LOTR and Arwen/Eowyn).

Suddenly I have Sam/Dean! Jared/Jensen! What is this madness?! Luckily, I still have a real yen for rarepairs, gen and rare characters - only 11 of my 26 SPN fics are Sam/Dean.

In the end though, I picked The Full Ride Experience NC-17 because you don't get more minor than a fic which is the only one in the pairing tag. It's Ruby/Tyson Brady with background Sam/Brady and Sam/Ruby.

The concept is simple - Ruby wants to know everything about Sam, every scrap of information she can use to manipulate him and Brady has things he can tell her. They work it out through sex. It's probably the most graphic het sex I've written (apart from maybe the Gen/Jared one with the fucking machine) but it (to me) succeeds in what it set out to do with the characters - the sex is never the point, it's an instruction manual in how to manipulate Sam Winchester through it. It also helped me work out a few Ruby thoughts - specifically regarding the change in vessels and the ostensible change in personality. Also, as I've bored everyone with a number of times, my only piece of unchangeable SPN headcanon is a college fling between Sam and Brady so I liked bouncing off that.

In a sense everything I write is for myself, I wouldn't write it otherwise  - who has time for that? Then I really thought about it and realised that I totally have a story that is so self-indulgent and ridiculously, embarrassingly, clearly for myself, that I should pick it and weep over my bad taste.

Trial by Fire, Sam/Dean/Cas and all combos thereof, rated Hard R

This is my favourite fic that I've written, for exactly the self indulgence that I mentioned up above. In short, it's a season 8 divergent fic where, after Sam begins the trials, it riffs off the idea that he's being changed on a molecular level and separated from the rest of humanity as a precursor to the necessary act of closing hell. In this fic, it takes the form of Sam not being able to touch anybody without burning their skin, including through clothes. The only person exempt from this is Cas, who can touch Sam if he exerts the effort to. So touch deprivation, isolation, finding ways to bridge the gap all come into play. Writing a sex scene without penetration, and where two of the participants (Sam and Dean) can't touch each other, and for more than one reason was a challenge, and balancing the emotions between all three of them was even more difficult. At no point did I want Cas to be a proxy - he's not the conduit between them, he's a disrupting force. Also wooo chance to write Sassy! With bonus difficult emotions that neither of them can articulate. My jam, all of it is my jam.

With my other recs this meme I've been upfront with the bad bits to them, but I'm not going to bother listing the things that are wrong with this one (though there are plenty!) but I give a fair heads up that I couldn't find a beta for it and that my issues with commas are pretty awful, though I think I've caught the worst of them by now.
stripytights: (Dean and Sam)
The story I picked (and as a change it's neither SPN nor SPN RPF!) is a loaded weapon (ready and waiting) rated Explicit, which is Hercules Hansen/Stacker Pentecost from Pacific Rim and written for acaramelmacchiato/bro-stoevsky

Sadly Hot Dads (official ship name right there) never really took off (I do not know why - look at this screencap and boggle also) but it seized my brain and made me wonder what a relationship would look like between two people who verbally barely interact but whose presence, ease with each other and the way they anticipate one another came across so well. It was a joy to write for bro, not least because it forced me to be significantly more subtle than I usually am. I ended up dialing back every single extreme and working on creating a mood of extreme tiredness. It ended up infecting the whole story and creating a slowness to their actions, a damped down enjoyment of their time together, a parallel to the fact that they're aging but not decaying. I liked the chance to get the other side of Chuck's damage as well - writing jerks (and their reasons) but not excusing them is always fun.

If I was writing it all over again, there's things that I would fix - I'd like to add a little more about where they know each other from first in particular, but as a snapshot of a relationship between people at a time of crisis, who play their cards close to their chest but who know each other from the bone up, I think it works. And the recipient liked it, which really I am the happiest about.

Day 1: Something Old

For Day 2: something new, I was torn between A Skewed Reflection (Sam has sex with a soulless Dean) and What Goes on Tour (Jensen joins Jared's band, they have sex - there may be a theme in my writing here.) In the end I picked What Goes on Tour because it feels like a story other people didn't like at all in the main.

I'm not entirely sure why but possibly the huge amount of amazing Band AUs already out there doesn't help. Since this is the self promotion meme though, I'll talk about what I did like about it. It's not as overtly meant to be funny as say Masturbation Science Theatre 3000 but it's my sort of humour and in the main the band and their activities are based in real life. I've never been a musician (got asked to leave my violin lessons for not being able to move past 'hot cross buns') but for someone who doesn't really enjoy much music, I've dated a number of musicians and been to a lot of live gigs. So, the backdrop was something I knew about, it was a chance to include Danneel and Gen, and man, I just really love wall-sex, public blowjobs, and fucking through clothes. I do wish I'd brought the setting (early 2000s) more clearly to life and that's definitely something it lacked for me.

The Seven Days )
stripytights: (Dean and Sam)
This pre-dates any of my SPN activity in the last couple of years and was my toe-dip into the fandom at around about season 5 in 2009. I never posted it and it languished in a folder because I stopped writing altogether.

As early season 5 fic the story drips with angst naturally, but then the show was dripping with angst as well, so tonally it's not a complete disconnect. I like that I can spot themes in it which remain relevant to what I write now - disconnects between sexuality and attraction, the question of how far is too far to push something in the name of love. It's Sam trying to recreate trust between them via a blowjob, complicated by alcohol and by the fact that neither of them are attracted to each other. As a story it's fatally flawed, but concept-wise I love it.

Stealing a meme created by [livejournal.com profile] snickfic because I keep meaning to post more and this seems like an excellent excuse. Starting it tomorrow.

The Days:

1. Something old
2. Something new - talk about a new fanwork of yours!
3. Something you made for someone else
4. Something you made just for yourself
5. Something for a large fandom/pairing/character
6. Something for a small fandom/pairing/character
7. Something you're just really proud of

Feel free to comment on the posts, in fact, please God do. Tell me about your day, share some recipes that can be made not using anything that might burn the house down or some life-hacks. (Antsy about these jobs not getting back yet? no clue what you mean.)

Also, because double utility is my thing, I have a music rec for other insomniacs. I listened to an hour of this before I went to sleep and it worked like a charm - got a solid six hours for the first time in ages. Glass Animals. Not sure what I'd call them - probably just indie/alternative/faintly rock. Samples: Pools and Exxus

Day One

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Day 2
In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Day 3

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser-known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom who maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.
