1. I wrote fic! Fluffy, short , slightly PWPy J2 where Jensen covers weddings for gossip rags, and Jared snaps photos to accompany it. Can be found here

2. I was lucky enough to claim a really really fantastic artist for RBB. There were so many amazing choices, and I was just about fast enough to get one of them. I'm looking forward immensely to this one. I'm not sure if we can mention names yet, so I won't.

3. Milly_gal made a gorgeous graphic as a Halloween treat (definitely not trick!) to go with The Intuitive Art of Touch (Dean Smith shaving Sam Wesson in intimate ways).

NSFW underneath )

4. I am miserably failing to watch new SPN at the moment, due to time issues, and also reluctance to squash my fannish hopes.

5. Yuletide is kicking me hard already, but I feel like the end result may be okay.

6. I would like to change my LJ style, but the world of themes confuses me. I would like something super simple, clean and neat, and even better would be one that defaults to a page=light setting when you click on a link/cut, and one that has a better default font. If anyone has any recommendations or thoughts, I'd appreciate hearing them,

The bottom ones are more inline, than the top ones. Perhaps I'm more clearly defined on who I dislike. I'm surprised that Garth and Adam are as low as they are - I'd pegged them more for middle rankers, and I'm suspicious that Christian Campbell is at 47 - I'm fairly sure I clicked whoever he was against, each time he popped up. However Bobby, Samuel, Becky, Gabriel, yeah not surprised.

The top 15 are relatively accurate, but I'm not sure I'd put Mary as high as that. I do like her a lot (as witnessed by constant clicking) but I'm not sure I like her more than I like Bela, Ruby, Tessa etc. I'm also really surprised by John being in the top 10. I don't subscribe to John hate, but I also don't find him very interesting, and I would never say I like him particularly. Certainly, if he was in my top 15, it'd be towards the bottom. Jo, Bela, Victor, Ruby, Balthazar, Jody, these are all good picks though.

ETA: I've decided that John should be at 25. Below Dick Roman (who I thought would be higher up as villains go) but above Lilith. Mary should be at no 10, and I would move Gwen, Anna, Kevin and Uriel up about 15 places each into my top 20 at least.

Music Meme!

I usually skip music memes because I just don't listen to enough music to justify it. However, the discovery of an mp3 player I loaded up with songs and which has a shuffle function (I found it in the very depths of my handbag after I emptied it out into a new one and cleaned up the receipts) means that I can legitimately give this one a go! Click below a cut for the revelation that yes, I have really terrible taste in music, and a fairly idiosyncratic one.

Nah the subject line has nothing to do with this post. I'm just putting into effect my new resolution of using poetry lines to break up the usual long line of "thoughts" "things" and "stuff" that make up my usual subject lines. Only it isn't poetry, just a quote.

I updated my mini [livejournal.com profile] spn_masquerade recs list so that they link back to the journals of people who claimed them, and in all cases it provided me with a chance to reread them. So many good things! I'm glad that I still have some things saved to read for my next bus journey, even if it does mean having to slink closer to a window and change the font size to small.

I meant to post my second masquerade fill tonight, but the lovely MissM is doing beta duty so that eyes will not be hurt by my failure to acknowledge commas as a legitimate art form. I regretted posting my first one (Love Tokens) yesterday because Monday is a rubbish day to post fic on, and I had to comfort myself with the knowledge that if this fic isn't American enough, it's not through lack of trying. This is how I now know how many self-service checkouts Walmart introduced in 2014.

Partially because of said fill I suspect, I dreamt about serial killers last night. Only half way through running away, I stopped, and came back to the house where they were, because I'd left my scarf behind. I know dreams aren't necessarily about being sensible, but a scarf? Then I started dreaming about my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas assignment. I clearly need to stop fandoming before I go to bed.

New rule: Always ask what you're drinking before you drink it. I couldn't figure out why I was getting a little bit squiffy on a few pints of beer. So I asked what it was. "Ah," came the reply. "That's called An Brain Blásta. It's 7%." My reaction to that piece of information was a fairly hobbit reaction

Next round was a G&T and no looking back on the world of beer. Come to think of it, that probably contributed to the serial killer dreams as well. It also possibly gives legitimacy to the subject line I've chosen.

Below the cut you can feast your eyes on my hurt-comfort Bingo card. I say this every time and it's still true, I suck at hurt-comfort. I'm good at the hurt bit though, and there's a ton of things I can work with for once - some of which are made for Supernatural - abandonment issues! arrest! possession/mindcontrol! And that's just canon.

I also have an experimental fan-works bingo card, which I am even less likely to make a bingo for. But trying is the backbone of achievement

Thank you to the people who volunteered to beta - I appreciate it a ton. I've been remiss in getting in touch, partially because I accidentally almost ate a peanut. Which doesn't sound a big deal, but I'm  pretty deathly allergic when it comes to peanuts, so I've spent more time than I care to think of drinking gallons of water, brushing my teeth over and over, and hoping that I don't get a delayed reaction. Which all sounds rather dramatic, only my epi-pen is now out of date, so given where we were at the time it would have been a two hour drive to the hospital. I don't count myself cheap enough to prefer to die rather than buy one, but it rather felt like that. Tomorrow I'm buying one, because I don't think I can cope with that amount of terror over again.

Keeping an eye on myself still just in case, but I haven't swollen up like an over ripe fruit so I'm probably okay.

In other more cheerful and less death defying news (I swear my life is lurching from one crisis to another), I have to advertise this because it is terrific.

[livejournal.com profile] badbastion podficced the fic that I wrote for last year's Sam/Dean MiniBang (The One Left Behind), and it is amazing. I rarely listen to podfic although I've enjoyed specific podfics by specific podficcers. This absolutely changed my mind though on seeking more out. Badbastion has such a wonderful voice, soothing and with exactly the right emphasis. I really recommend any podfics that she's done, just based on this one. And not only that, [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal did a gorgeous cover to it as well - which got everything I wanted to get across about the story - the mood, Sam and Dean together, John the overarching influence, and which really works with both the podfic and the fic.

You can find the masterpost for it here, with both[livejournal.com profile] badbastion's podfic and [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal's artwork!

A second rec (yes, before I've listened to it) for [livejournal.com profile] applegeuse's podfic of Last Outpost of All There Is, because a) applegeuse and b) Last Outpost of All There Is which is one of my fav fics ever.

The fantastic [livejournal.com profile] indiachick tagged me in the 7 by 7 meme. Luckily I only have one relevant WIP that's seven pages long at this present moment in time. It may not ever see the light, but it's really fun to write.

"You could leave it," Jared says, but even as he speaks, he can see Jensen retreat. He's broached the impossible, the thing they never speak of, violated the unspoken compact of mutual discretion. Jensen stands then, takes up his book from the table as though he recognises now the futility of any commonplace gesture of friendship.

"Goodbye Jared," he says quietly. "I've asked the bishop to consider reassignation. He's very helpful, I suspect it won't be long." There's no bite to his voice, only a certain inevitability, as though it isn't Jensen speaking, but a thousand years worth of crushed human nature.

Since most people have done this meme, whoever would like to be tagged, consider yourself tagged!

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal (I chose to do five for each instead of ten)

The rules: Make a list of

1. Ten things that you think are common in your fic
2. Ten things you think are uncommon in your fic although commonly found in fic in general
2. Ten things you wish were more true of your fic.

I've been wretchedly sick for the last few days. Caught a cold and while I was at home I was crawling around moaning for people to kill me, enough that I suspect my family at least, wanted to grant my wish. Anyway, I dragged myself out of what is rapidly becoming less of a room and more of a lair stuffed with tissues and strepsils, and all the way down to Aldi to buy wine. Because even though I loathe St Patrick's Day, I do like wine.

Came back, and I might as well have not gone as there was a  bottle of wine on the doorstep in a bag with my name on it. Puzzling. The paper inside solved the mystery, it was from an acquaintance thanking me for help with a project. All fine and dandy...except how do they know where I live? It's not information I hand out. Did they follow me home one day?

Apart from that, if anyone wants to give me better titles for either of these [livejournal.com profile] spn_masquerade fics before I upload to AO3, I will love you forever and give you a glass of wine. Both of them were subject to the 'string any words together quick' style of titling. The worst one off is the femslash Gen/Danneel fic currently called 'Dinner is Served' which the more I think about it, the grosser it becomes. I like a good pun as much as the next girl but that doesn't even work as a joke. girl!Jensen/Jared called 'Stranger in a Crowd' is less viscerally ugh but equally bland. So help a fic writer out before I have to resort to Auden for the 1188567th time.

Hi to the new people from the friending meme! And what better way to start than with some useless information about me. [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7 gave me the letter R and it was surprisingly difficult.

Something I hate: rum (for good reason), ratatouille (the food not the film), radiation poisoning, racism, rats

Something I love: robots, reading, (white) Russians (the drink), raspberries, reviews, racing-at-speed

Somewhere I've been: Reykjavik, Reading (v cosmopolitan, me), Rome,

Somewhere I'd like to go: Russia!

Someone I know: I know so many Rebeccas, my facebook is full of them. On LJ there are the lovely  riyku, road_rhythm, rockyrace and runedgirl. So R has good company clearly.

A film I liked: Rashomon, Revolutionary Road, RocknRolla,

I think most people have already done this meme, but if you'd like a letter you can have one.

I'm staying in tonight and working on my [livejournal.com profile] super_disney fic. I might beg for a beta for it at some point. It also makes me want to be able to draw because this idea would be so much better visually. However the extent of my artistic talent is using picmonkey + stick figures, I find this terribly sad. To be fair, I also can't knit, crochet, woodwork or do anything dexterous with my hands that isn't a little bit of silver working.

Also I'm still working on my meme ficlets and I have to say [livejournal.com profile] alycat you came dangerously close to getting a ficlet where J2 were professional pigeon-fanciers. It took no less than two people reminding me that pigeons are not the same thing as turtledoves before I'd let that idea go.

So far I have kept to my NYRs though I haven't yet wended my way back to the gym. On Monday! For definite!
stripytights: (Dean and Sam)
Again with the lateness.

Usually I make November resolutions rather than NYs because I like starting early, but last year was hectic and I forgot. So:

- Do Big Bang. I failed to turn in a draft for the last two rounds (can I still sign up even?) This year is different though - I feel like I have an idea I really want to write, I'm not claiming I've planned anything - I'm pretty sure I'm not capable of planning anything, but I've been thinking about it for most of the past month.
- Lose last bit of weight. I got so so close to my ideal goal but derailed at Christmas (alcohol and fruit cake mostly). So I'd like to drop that last bit and work on maintainance. I'm also going to work hard on my fitness as well as my weight. I should probably do chess instead. I'm just as bad at it but it's kinder on the ankles.
- Write something every day no matter how small.
- Stop being so lazy when it comes to the work I should be doing. I'd like to end the year not regretting how I spent my time.

What are your resolutions if you've made any?

Trope Bingo under the cut )

Meme

Go to the closest book to you. Turn to page 206. The first sentence explains your love life. Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] amber1960 as the most recent poster.

I snagged two because I like to give myself some decent odds (and when I tried this yesterday I got the Hunchback of Notre Dame suggesting I drive people mad).

- Marc, the quintessential cold fish, capable of love?  - Magnificat, Julian May. I think it's quite hopeful! And mildly accurate.
- But there is a further possibility: it is conceivable that Caelius may not have been supporting Catiline at all. - Rubicon, Tom Holland. I have no idea what this means.
stripytights: (Dean and Sam)
I am permanently one step behind, always. It's very sad. But I have forgotten none of the Christmas meme entries - they'll just stretch into January, I promise.

This is all the Christmas things and I've combined my end of the year writing roundup into it as well!

[livejournal.com profile] wendy asked how I drink my coffee for this day.

The simplest answer to how I drink my coffee...is that I don't!

I used to have a truly disgusting habit of filling a mug half full of instant coffee and then sloshing a little bit of boiling water over it (no sugar, no milk). The resultant mess stained cups, skin if you spilt it and tasted like thick tar. I have no idea where I picked the taste up from, but I used to drink four/five mugs of that a day - much to the horror of the rest of my family who preferred actual coffee that didn't come in kg jars. I'm still caffeine-insensitive and I'm pretty sure that's why.

Then one day I gave it up because I thought it was unhealthy. Just stopped drinking it and never went back. I didn't have a cup of coffee for the next three years or so. Nowadays I'll occasionally drink one - I still only want it black and strong enough to make you wince (or when I can get it, a mint frappuccino thing). I do like coffee flavoured chocolates though.

Instead I drink tea; mostly standard breakfast tea or earl grey, though I try and get two or three cups of green tea a day because I think there may be some health benefit to it. And wine, obviously.

If you want to write me things/wish me a merry Chrismas/provide me with recs, then you can find my fandom stocking here. Please do link me to yours as well if you have one.

- also, thank you all, for the replies on the love meme ♥ it was a very cheering thing in a bleak exam-ridden time!
stripytights: (Dean and Sam)
I have no internet at home (broken) and when I say I've been working on these group projects I mean literally 14 hour days, plus a mock exam today, and a ton of other stuff. I'm looking forward both to posting my own December entries and reading everyone else's, so don't be alarmed at getting a late comment on them. That's just me backreading furiously. I also have a few recs stored up so I'll try and make that entry soon as well.

I still have some spaces open on my talk meme - you can find it here. I have six ficlet prompts so far, so a couple of 'talk topics' would be particularly nice as well - what can I say, I like to talk. Or you know, stick figures! I'm very nifty with MS Paint.

It's that time of the year for love-memes (though I may have forgotten that until I saw firesign's post about it) Regardless, here is the link.

my thread here

Do let me know if you have a thread, I'm currently trawling the pages by hand (dedication!).

- Will write up about my fun fannish week a little bit later, but just going to say I find myself increasingly shipping Cas/Hannah and I have no idea what is going on.

- Insmallpackages is a go! Find it here. Double points if you can spot my asks when the claim post goes up (1st Dec).

- Fandom stocking is also a go. It can be found here

Well not ultimate, but definitely a combination. I like the look of the talking meme but reluctantly have to accept that with the combo of exams in December and writing commitments that I'd be highly unlikely to fulfil it. So instead I snagged and modified this likely-looking meme from [livejournal.com profile] lilliburlero. The request can be related to the prompt you pick if you like, or not at all.

Pick any one of the properties or personnel from the Twelve Days of Christmas and any one of the following:

·         A ficlet prompt. Any fandom/any pair
·         A talking post - give me a topic to talk about. No limits - can be fannish - favourite fics, meta, stuff about my incredibly boring real life etc
·         A request for a drawn stick figure.
·         Anything else really.

The prompts are of course
Pear Tree: [livejournal.com profile] cassiopeia7 (Abaddon)
Partridge: [livejournal.com profile] glovered (Jess - STICK FIGURE)
Turtle Doves: [livejournal.com profile] alycat (J2)
French Hens: [livejournal.com profile] amberdreams (My three favourite fics)
Colley Birds: [livejournal.com profile] wendy (How do I drink my coffee)
Gold Rings: [livejournal.com profile] big_heart_june (J2)
Geese: [livejournal.com profile] emily_shore (stick figure illustrations of how you know when you're in a Mary Renault book)
Swans: [livejournal.com profile] snickfic (Meg/Castiel)

Maids (2):[livejournal.com profile] steeplechasers (Sam/Dean, virginity)

I finally (about six months after I first thought of it) got round to changing my name on here. I'm about 95% sure that stripytights was [livejournal.com profile] cherie_morte's suggestion, so thanks for that! My tumblr has become stripy-tights.tumblr.com and I'm still considering whether to change my AO3 name or not.

Also I edited my salt-burn-porn entry to solve the formatting issue - LJ was doing its maintainence last night so as soon as I posted, naturally it went down and left it without proper paragraphing. So, sorry about that.
