[livejournal.com profile] tdorian's lovely pictures got me started on a small story about Dean Winchester and music, and as an extra for her I decided to create a fanmix of songs that exemplify Dean Winchester to me. They’re not necessarily songs he’d listen to (though he would a few,) but the lyrics are very reminiscent of him to me (which is why I’ve included lyric links.) I’ve also included a very short explanation of which bit of Dean the song reminds me of.This is my first fanmix ever, so feedback whether positive, or constructive criticism is very much welcomed!

Details: The entire fanmix (with the cover and back) is available as a .rar file through the media-fire link. If you’d rather listen to it online, I have created a playlist on youtube which is linked, and I have also linked each song individually to youtube. Next to each song there is a lyrics link which will take you to a pastebin copy of the lyrics for that song. I chose pastebin to avoid the ads and popups that generally infest lyric sites. The CD-cover and back is linked as well (photobucket.)

0.1 Citizen Soldier - 3 Doors Down This sets the tone of the fanmix for me. This is Dean’s job- he’s a soldier protecting people, without very much thanks. Youtube | Lyrics

0.2 Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden. This is referenced in the story as a song I think Young Dean would have listened to (the beat and accessability of it are big factors,) and it represents his childhood. Youtube | Lyrics

0.3 Be Ready When I Say Go - Emperors. Next door to Run to the Hills, this one is Dean growing up to take his place in the fight. Youtube | Lyrics

0.4 Paralyser - Finger Eleven. More about other people’s (positive reactions) to Dean, it’s an upbeat tune for the rare lighter moments in his life.  Youtube | Lyrics

0.5 tip eht fo mottob - Shael Riley and The Double Ice Backfire. This is literally the most perfect song I've ever heard for Dean down the Pit. Music  | Lyrics

0.6 Nightlife - IAMX  The mix takes on a darker tone after 0.5 Dean starts to submerge his barriers become more malleable Youtube | Lyrics

0.7 The Unforgiven II - Metallica The result of those barriers becoming malleable, is that after everything that happens, Dean remains unable to forgive himself. There’s glimpses of hope but he can’t grab at them Youtube | Lyrics

0.8 The Devil's Arcade - Bruce Springsteen. Tdorian suggested this song and it's an excellent fit for Dean. Heroes are indeed needed Youtube | Lyrics

0.9 When the Man Comes Around - Johnny Cash The religious overtones of this song make it completely perfect for Dean’s attitude to life in later seasons. There’s a fatalism to it that works as well Youtube | Lyrics

10. A Real Hero - College and Electric Youth.  It’s what Dean is despite everything. A real hero, and a real human being in ways that aren’t very reconciliable Youtube | Lyrics

Bonus track: My Shit's Fucked Up - Warren Zevon (This is a bonus track because it didn’t fit, being pretty jokey. I think it’s got application to Dean’s life though!) Youtube | Lyrics
