The fantastic [livejournal.com profile] indiachick tagged me in the 7 by 7 meme. Luckily I only have one relevant WIP that's seven pages long at this present moment in time. It may not ever see the light, but it's really fun to write.

"You could leave it," Jared says, but even as he speaks, he can see Jensen retreat. He's broached the impossible, the thing they never speak of, violated the unspoken compact of mutual discretion. Jensen stands then, takes up his book from the table as though he recognises now the futility of any commonplace gesture of friendship.

"Goodbye Jared," he says quietly. "I've asked the bishop to consider reassignation. He's very helpful, I suspect it won't be long." There's no bite to his voice, only a certain inevitability, as though it isn't Jensen speaking, but a thousand years worth of crushed human nature.

Since most people have done this meme, whoever would like to be tagged, consider yourself tagged!

Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] milly_gal (I chose to do five for each instead of ten)

The rules: Make a list of

1. Ten things that you think are common in your fic
2. Ten things you think are uncommon in your fic although commonly found in fic in general
2. Ten things you wish were more true of your fic.

Ten Five things common in my fic.

1. Religious imagery sneaks in a whole lot.
2. Metaphors of consumption, particularly around sex.
3. Is it too cliche to say subversion? I don't start out thinking that I want to do it, but it usually creeps in.
4. I write rather a lot of blowjobs. And shaving. And switching.
5. A certain kind of intense closeness, not necessarily sexual.

Ten Five things common in fanfic that I don't do

1. I have little patience for the trope of deliberate misunderstandings that could be cleared up if people actually said something. Jane Austen did it best when she had Catherine Morland be denied the pleasure of turning pale at Henry talking to another women, because she already knew it was probably his sister.
2. I've written threesomes, but in general, they're not a relationship model I enjoy writing.
3. Crying. Not something that does anything for me. Tied in with a slightly lacklustre feel about hurt/comfort in general. I can go for some hurt, not so big on the comfort.
4. Physical description of characters. Not from any distaste for it - I love reading other people's, it's just not something that ever occurs to me to do. In my mind both I, and the people reading, know what the people look like.
5. Dom/sub roles, particularly ones that carry over into people's lives outside of the bedroom. I've written them, or injected a touch of them (usually in my het/femslash), but in general, it's not something I'm interested in or write as a matter of course.

Ten Five things I wish about my fic

1. I would love to be one of those people who can carefully plot a fic, know what happens, and then write a gorgeous long story. No chance. God I am glad those people exist though.
2. I wish I could write good omniscient POV or alternatively, multiple POVs within the same story in a natural way.
3. That I could slow down and pace myself.
4. That a guide to commas would insert itself into my brain, and make itself at home.
5. That I could tap people with a geologist's hammer rather than a sledge.

Ohhh, I like!

And this That a guide to commas would insert itself into my brain, and make itself at home. YES PLEASE! I perhaps don't get hung up on appearance or descriptors of the characters as much as I should but sometimes I find I can't get passed it because how many times can you say, "XYZ Green eyes!" LOL! All though that is a descriptor for Dean I choose not to add a lot of the time, because I get so sick of people falling back on simple things when they can't find the words. Which sounds harsh I know, but you can describe so many things in fic, don't just stick to his eyes O_O

I once got paid the most amazing compliment on a fic!...

That was CRAZY hot. And what made it even more enjoyable was your great style of writing. You don't use cliche phrases or lapse into the usual descriptions I read of the guys - mainly repeated mentions of eye color. Awesome!

I was chuffed! lol

That's a lovely compliment!

Yeah, I'm just not into descriptions of physical bodies as opposed to the emotions that people feel on being in contact with them! Good to know that this is something other people can relate to.

I prefer to explain how they feel when the other person is touching them, you get a sense of how a person looks simply from the feel of them :)

Cheers! I wrote a fic about priest Jensen and local boy Jared having sex, and then realised that that wasn't the story I wanted to write. I wanted to write the story about the conflict between genuine faith and the physical world, how there's no easy or simple answer to it.

I didn't know you write a lot of religious imagery! As evident from the seven line meme :D That's so cool! Also, I'm stealing the second meme.

I love your list of things you don't do. I'm with you on all of those.

Religious imagery worms its way in a lot, I think it's a peril of being raised Catholic. I'm more at risk from it sneaking in through word choice/way of speaking though. Then I have to go back and excise "On the third day, he rose again, and made breakfast."

I love writing memes - I love to learn about everyone else's writing, and then try to figure out my own more. Very cool!!!

They're brilliant for that aren't they? I really enjoy seeing everyone else's writing process.

The thing I usually take away (and love) about your writing is the subversive comment. A lot of your work is tilting at windmills
Unfair scenarios, inequity. Love that.

And this!!!!! That a guide to commas would insert itself into my brain, and make itself at home.
Oh man! I am so with you on this one. I seem to be impervious to comma logic. : (

Thank you for saying that - it's a concept that's very close to my heart so I appreciate it <3

Commas are bastards. Little bastards that are utterly impervious to any kind of reasonable logic.

I too aspire to the long gorgeous story. SIGH. XD Maybe one day! We'll get there!!

And the thought of intense closeness gets me all tingly, eeee. <333 Thanks for your responses to this meme--I am absolutely LOVING everyone's insights!!

This was such a fun meme to read people's responses to!

One day, the long gorgeous story will materialise, and I will also find a winning lottery ticket on the ground, and SPN will bring Bela, Victor and Jo back. I am an eternal optimist.
