Two memes for the price of one.

The fantastic
indiachick tagged me in the 7 by 7 meme. Luckily I only have one relevant WIP that's seven pages long at this present moment in time. It may not ever see the light, but it's really fun to write.

"You could leave it," Jared says, but even as he speaks, he can see Jensen retreat. He's broached the impossible, the thing they never speak of, violated the unspoken compact of mutual discretion. Jensen stands then, takes up his book from the table as though he recognises now the futility of any commonplace gesture of friendship.
"Goodbye Jared," he says quietly. "I've asked the bishop to consider reassignation. He's very helpful, I suspect it won't be long." There's no bite to his voice, only a certain inevitability, as though it isn't Jensen speaking, but a thousand years worth of crushed human nature.

The rules: Make a list of
1. Ten things that you think are common in your fic
2. Ten things you think are uncommon in your fic although commonly found in fic in general
2. Ten things you wish were more true of your fic.

1. Religious imagery sneaks in a whole lot.
2. Metaphors of consumption, particularly around sex.
3. Is it too cliche to say subversion? I don't start out thinking that I want to do it, but it usually creeps in.
4. I write rather a lot of blowjobs. And shaving. And switching.
5. A certain kind of intense closeness, not necessarily sexual.
1. I have little patience for the trope of deliberate misunderstandings that could be cleared up if people actually said something. Jane Austen did it best when she had Catherine Morland be denied the pleasure of turning pale at Henry talking to another women, because she already knew it was probably his sister.
2. I've written threesomes, but in general, they're not a relationship model I enjoy writing.
3. Crying. Not something that does anything for me. Tied in with a slightly lacklustre feel about hurt/comfort in general. I can go for some hurt, not so big on the comfort.
4. Physical description of characters. Not from any distaste for it - I love reading other people's, it's just not something that ever occurs to me to do. In my mind both I, and the people reading, know what the people look like.
5. Dom/sub roles, particularly ones that carry over into people's lives outside of the bedroom. I've written them, or injected a touch of them (usually in my het/femslash), but in general, it's not something I'm interested in or write as a matter of course.
1. I would love to be one of those people who can carefully plot a fic, know what happens, and then write a gorgeous long story. No chance. God I am glad those people exist though.
2. I wish I could write good omniscient POV or alternatively, multiple POVs within the same story in a natural way.
3. That I could slow down and pace myself.
4. That a guide to commas would insert itself into my brain, and make itself at home.
5. That I could tap people with a geologist's hammer rather than a sledge.

And this!!!!! That a guide to commas would insert itself into my brain, and make itself at home.
Oh man! I am so with you on this one. I seem to be impervious to comma logic. : (
